Amsterdam's Most Wanted FM

AMW stands for Amsterdam’s Most Wanted, our nickname is the big red machine. We are an online radio station, a community-driven platform, and an exponent that is listened to in more than 150 countries. The station has been around for 25 years since it started as a pirate dance station illicitly placing transmitters all over town bringing underground vibes to the city of Amsterdam. Meanwhile, it functions as an international platform and creative breeding ground, an autonomous institute on- and offline that provides a stage for everyone with beautiful ideas and musical or artistic talents. AMW provides its platform for (upcoming) artists and other creators to showcase their talent and share their unique perspectives. We stimulate cross-cultural discourse, contributing to the cultural life of all origins in Amsterdam and The Netherlands. AMW is committed to providing diverse but quality programming that is relevant, engaging and reflects the interest and needs of our audience.

History

The Legend continues and it’s more than alive. The highly acclaimed AMW.FM = Amsterdams Most Wanted, was established in 2001 via Dance Radio and Lazer FM. Running weekly from Friday night to Sunday evening, there were non-stop broadcast and live programs hosted by Dennis Ruijer, Dave Middenboom, Mike Simbello, Counterpoint as well as others. Several of these founding presenters became well-known DJs at the renowned Dutch radio station; “Radio 538.” During the era of pirate radio, the Lazer FM crew searched for high rooftops, and soon they found one suitable to install their transmitters. Eventually, they placed transmitters all over Amsterdam and surrounding areas. The infamous “Chimney in Diemen”, “Maxis” (Dutch Walmart), Tax Authority Buildings (Belastingdienst), Bijlmer (Flats), KPN tower, Cranes, Crystal Tower, and many construction sites became the network and voice of Dance Radio and Lazer FM. They gained media attention and eventually, RTL made a documentary about pirate radio in the Netherlands and showed everyone how it’s done properly. At the climax of their series, the police became aware and began removing the transmitters. They didn’t know that on the other side of the building, there were crews on standby to place a new transmitter within ten minutes. This game of cat and mouse with the police was the birth of Amsterdam’s Most Wanted.

What could be the reason there is no sound?

1. Make sure your speakers and the media player are not muted :) Not an uncommon problem ;)
2. Please try again in another browser, preferably Chrome, Firefox and when using a windows media player option Internet Explorer.
3. Try another stream type clicking: windows media player or external player as alternative
4. Be patient, some radiostations load within 10-20 seconds due to high traffic issues.
5. If you do not have any flash player we automatically load the second best player, so again be patient.
6. If the stream doesn't start automatically please click the play button or the mp3 option on the right, please retry 1,2 or 3 times. Most of the times this works.
7. If you are using a windows media player, this will mostly only work in Internet Explorer.
8. A radiostation might be temporarily unavailable due to several reasons. If your favorite station is not working right now, please try again in a few moments.
9. The media player isn't showing/working in your browser, check below what you can do about it
10. Try another computer or device (tablet, phone etc).
11. Some radiostations have limited rights for international broadcasting. Some stations only broadcast in their own country. For example BBC in the UK and lots of stations in the US. If you really want to listen use a proxy server from that specific country to solve this problem.
12. Report this issue using our Broken Link page or send an email to [email protected]. We are able to see if there is something wrong.

Why do I see a grey screen?

Stream keeps on buffering
In Windows Media Player you can improve this. Go to Extra, Options, and then tab performance to extend the netwerkbuffer to 15 seconds.
