EKR - EAST KENT RADIO

Truly a Local Rock Radio Station, EKR’s (East Kent Radio) history began when East Kent Radio Limited was formed to apply for the re-advertisement of the east Kent licence in October 1994, which was held by Invicta Radio at that time. The station went on air for a 1 month temporary FM Licence on 107.2 FM in December 1995. Now, many years later we launch the station again, online here first then with plans to move onto Local SSLDAB and Community FM later. We have a unique local rock music flavour from Kent Bands integrated into the programming, both past and present, and our speciality of finding unsigned local bands are also included.

History

EKR’s history began when East Kent Radio Limited was formed to apply for the re-advertisement of the east Kent licence in October 1994, which was held by Invicta Radio Limited. Keen on promoting Digital Radio (DAB) From October 1997 to January 1999 we ran an experimental radio service on the Astra satellite from The Maidstone Studios under the call sign of “ EKR ” and “ Night Tracks ”. The station was also broadcast with local programming opt-outs and commercials on a one-month trial FM broadcast to Maidstone in October 1997 and to London during January 1998. It could also be received on the experimental digital radio (DAB) multiplex across London . This provided us with valuable audience research and operational experience. Into the millennium we continued to lobby the UK Regulators for Ashford, Kent in the UK and the surrounding areas to be included in the new licensing programme, EKR Ashford was born. The licence advertisement and application procedure was submitted in July 2004, and was won by another applicant. Undeterred EKR went online in June 2008 with four themed Rockstreams and continues to do so while promoting new UK DAB services. Our motivation and incentive has always been to give new and unsigned Rock Bands a chance and opportunity to promote themselves on our Rock Radio Platform.

What could be the reason there is no sound?

1. Make sure your speakers and the media player are not muted :) Not an uncommon problem ;)
2. Please try again in another browser, preferably Chrome, Firefox and when using a windows media player option Internet Explorer.
3. Try another stream type clicking: windows media player or external player as alternative
4. Be patient, some radiostations load within 10-20 seconds due to high traffic issues.
5. If you do not have any flash player we automatically load the second best player, so again be patient.
6. If the stream doesn't start automatically please click the play button or the mp3 option on the right, please retry 1,2 or 3 times. Most of the times this works.
7. If you are using a windows media player, this will mostly only work in Internet Explorer.
8. A radiostation might be temporarily unavailable due to several reasons. If your favorite station is not working right now, please try again in a few moments.
9. The media player isn't showing/working in your browser, check below what you can do about it
10. Try another computer or device (tablet, phone etc).
11. Some radiostations have limited rights for international broadcasting. Some stations only broadcast in their own country. For example BBC in the UK and lots of stations in the US. If you really want to listen use a proxy server from that specific country to solve this problem.

Why do I see a grey screen?

Probably this is caused by an popup adblocker

Stream keeps on buffering
In Windows Media Player you can improve this. Go to Extra, Options, and then tab performance to extend the netwerkbuffer to 15 seconds.
